tucking the frame closely

Honda CB360 “Brat” style bike

For this project we re-styled this classic Honda’s frame from the backbone rearward. First the frame tail section was chopped off and replaced with a shortened hump section, then  all the remaining frame and suspension welds were smoothed and blended. An aluminum seat pan was fabricated to hug the frame with a shorty fender incorporated and blended for style with provisions for a custom tail lamp. An aluminum electronics tray was also fabricated from a single piece to hug the bottom of the pan and taper to flow with the bikes frame. This triangular box now houses all the electronic components for a streamlined look, it is also ventilated to allow everything to breath. Custom turn signals were mounted upside-down tucked in on the bottom of the frame with welded bungs. They are positioned so that all the wiring runs through the frame and into the new electronics box. A lightweight alloy license plate mount was built with a frame gusset on the swinger so it can be easily removed; tucked right in on the right side to balance out the exhaust looking from the rear. Lastly, the crown jewel, stainless 1.25″  to 1.75″ exhaust was fabricated entirely from tig welded pie-cut sections and back-purged for strength. This system is made from three individual pieces united by a modified 2 into 1 slip-fit merge which takes the 1.25″ head pipes and expands to 1.375″ and ultimately the 1.75″ tail section. The head pipes and merge are a slip fit held together with stainless springs; a very robust construction which allows the stainless sections to expand and contract with heat separately from each other, ultimately reducing fatigue and cracking of the welds from long term use.  At the head we incorporated two proprietary machined 304 stainless spacers to retain the factory finned clamping system. At the tail a Cone Engineering megaphone muffler is slanted upward for an aggressive sound to match the aggressive styling. All in all this customer’s “Brat” bike project is off to a great start incorporating loads of bespoke fabrication possessing all the elegant overkill you can expect from a KMC build.
